Reported crime up 19%

The number of crimes reported in Hertford over the last twelve months has increased by 18.4% compared to the same period last year.

From July 2018 to June 2019 there were 3399 crimes recorded, compared to 2870 between July 2017 and June 2018. 

The figures are dominated by violence and sexual offences (801/24%) and antisocial behaviour (729/22%).

Possession of weapons represented just 0.71% of crimes and drugs related offences 3.7%.

The number of cases dropped was 1722/65%, the vast majority due to being unable to identify a suspect or being unable to prosecute.

Only 5.2% of cases ended up in court, with a further 4.2% being dealt with by police.
